THE CIRCUIT
How the Bear Got His Short Tail, and the Monkey Got His Flat Face.

One day a big grizzly bear went walking in the jungle. His name was Rotus.  (He had been shipped from Canada to Africa to see how bears could survive in the jungle.)  He kept on walking until he met a monkey.  They started talking and the Monkey said, "I bet I am more agile than you are," he boasted, "I can climb trees and do all sorts of things." The bear retorted, "I can do the same things as you can!" Then an idea popped into his head. "I bet you can't knock down a tree." And with that went and knocked down a tree.  The monkey then said, "Wanna bet?" and suddenly screeched. In a few seconds Mr. Cougar came zooming in. Then the monkey said, " Mr. Cougar, please knock down that tree." And the cougar answered, "Glad to." And knocked down the biggest tallest tree with a flick of his paw. Later that day Rotus grumbled, "All right you can knock down a tree, scare the living daylights out of a tiger, and climb a tree faster than me. But I bet you can't swim across the river." And with that, he jumped into the river and swam across.  The monkey said, "Not so fast my friend." And made a funny sort of noise. In about half a second, an alligator popped his head out of the water. The Monkey hopped onto his back and said, "Bring me across the river." The alligator went so fast that the bear could hardly see him. When the monkey got to the shore he said, "You have challenged me to the stuff you can do, now it's my turn!" "All right." Muttered Rotus and turned to follow the monkey. When the monkey got to his favourite tree, he climbed it and said, "I bet you can't hang on the tree with your tail!" Rotus replied with a sneer. "That's easy," he said and started climbing the tree. By then the monkey had gotten down the tree and was standing under the bear. Rotus was hanging there by his tail when suddenly Snap! Zing! Splat! The bear fell on the monkey! "Oww, my tail!" Screamed Rotus, "My tail it's gone!" "So what," yelled the monkey, "my face, oh, my face!" "You did it, you did it!" roared Rotus and ran through the jungle as fast as he could go. The monkey however went and hid in a tree. And when they came across each other the monkey and the bear would look at each other and laugh and laugh until tears come running down their cheeks. And that's the story of how the monkey got his flat face, and the bear his short tail.
